Privacy policy
In short: we collect nothing about you in the app. What you record in Zakati stays on your device and, if you use iCloud, in your own private iCloud storage, which we cannot see. There are no accounts, no adverts, no analytics and no tracking.
Who we are
Zakati is made by Yasir Basharat, an independent developer in the United Kingdom. You can reach us at [email protected].
What stays with you
Everything you enter — profiles, what you own and owe, the people and causes you give to, payments, receipts and saved zakat years — is stored in the app on your device. If iCloud is turned on for Zakati, Apple keeps a copy in your private iCloud database so it appears on your other devices. That database belongs to your Apple Account; we have no access to it.
Settings such as the app lock, reminders and hiding amounts are kept on your device only.
What the app sends over the internet
To value gold, silver and other currencies, the app asks two free public price feeds for the day’s prices:
- gold-api.com (api.gold-api.com), for gold and silver;
- currency-api, served from cdn.jsdelivr.net and currency-api.pages.dev, for exchange rates.
These requests name only a currency or a metal and, for a past day, a date. Nothing about you or your records is sent. Like any website, those services may see your device’s internet address when it connects; their own privacy policies apply to that.
Links to rulings, price look-ups and these pages open in Safari, and the site or search engine you reach is governed by its own policy.
Purchases
Zakati Pro is bought through Apple. Apple handles payment and tells the app only whether Pro is active on your Apple Account. We never see your card or payment details.
Camera, Face ID and notifications
- Camera: used only when you choose to scan a receipt. The scan is kept with the payment in your record.
- Face ID or passcode: if you turn the app lock on, iOS checks it for us. The app never receives your face data or passcode.
- Notifications: reminders are scheduled on your device. Nothing is sent to a server to deliver them.
Backups and exports
A backup is a file encrypted with a passphrase you choose, saved wherever you decide. We cannot open it and cannot recover a forgotten passphrase. PDF and CSV exports are saved or shared where you choose.
The home-screen widget
The widget shows a summary the app leaves on your device. With the app lock on, it shows no amounts.
This website
The site has no adverts or tracking. If you leave your email to hear when the Android app ships, it is used only to write to you once about that, stored with Formspree, the service that runs the form, and deleted afterwards. To be removed sooner, write to [email protected].
Deleting your data
Delete the app to remove everything on the device. To remove the iCloud copy too, open Settings, tap your name, then iCloud, then Manage Storage (or Manage Account Storage), choose Zakati and delete its data.
Children
Zakati collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
Your rights
We hold no personal data from the app, so there is nothing for us to access, correct or delete on our side. For the Android email list, ask us and we’ll delete your address. In the UK you can also contact the Information Commissioner’s Office.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published here with a new date.
